CaptainShot V3 is now live on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Most screenshots begin with a good intention:
“I’ll need this later.”
“Don’t let me forget this.”
“Let’s keep that.”
Then, little by little, they disappear into camera-roll chaos.
A year ago, I launched CaptainShot with a simple goal: make screenshots feel less like passive storage and more like a private personal memory, organized, searchable, useful, and ready when you need it.
V3 is the biggest evolution of the app so far.

What’s new in V3:
– New screenshots are detected, analyzed, and organized continuously in the background.
– You can now add more than screenshots: photos, documents, magazines, and conference content, capture on iPhone and iPad, drag and drop on Mac.
– Search naturally across text, visual content, notes, summaries, and detected data, then turn a useful search into an always-updated Custom Selection.
– Send a screenshot through the Share Sheet to create an AI summary, draft a reminder, or reuse its text immediately.
– Track screenshots from “To Review” to “Done,” share editable collections, annotate with more precision, and work faster with Mac shortcuts.
– CaptainShot now works on more devices: Apple Intelligence is no longer required for local organization, while compatible devices unlock richer local AI features.
Everything remains on device: OCR, visual understanding, SmartData, search, and classification. Under the hood, V3 combines local OCR, Vision signals, CLIP-based visual embeddings, vector similarity search, relevance ranking, and proprietary classification algorithms; on compatible devices, Apple Intelligence adds local summaries, translations, title suggestions, and AI reminder drafts. No account, ads, or profiling.
V3 also rethinks the interface across iPhone, iPad, and Mac: calmer navigation, more direct actions, clearer states, and workflows designed to stay out of the way. Building it has meant balancing product thinking, native Apple UX, on-device intelligence, interface design, and performance so the app feels useful without becoming noisy.
I’d love to hear how CaptainShot helps you come back to the things you chose to save.
